Guide to Purchasing Commercial Safes

When Choosing your Commercial Safe you should consider the following:

The Location

Generally we recommend the location of the safe to be in a secure location such as a cash office. We would be happy to talk to you about the design and installation of your cash office. Contact Steven Crothers Phone 01 4567947or visit one of our security superstores

Under Floor Safe or Free Standing Safe?

An underfloor  safe is one that is buried under a concrete floor. It is very discreet and takes up no room

A freestanding safe is one that is bolted to the floor or wall. It is easy to access and has more volume for holding change etc

Deposit or Non Deposit safe?

If you wish you or your staff to make “Drops” in the safe without having to open the safe then you require a deposit safe. We carry a large range of options at our  Security Superstore , from small capsule deposits to envelope type to larger “rotary” types for depositing larger envelopes or cash bags.

Type and Level of Protection

This relates to two issues: Security and Fire.

The level of security in a safe is usually graded by it’s “Cash Rating”. Basically this means that if, for instance your insurance policy covers you for €5000 cash, then, generally your insurance company will expect that to be kept in a safe that is rated for that amount.

In the case of jewellery or valuables the rule of thumb is usually 10 times the cash rating, e.g. €5,000 cash rating would be € 50,000 in valuables.

It may be an idea to talk to your insurance company about any requirements they might have before you purchase.

Fire Protection is usually graded at 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes or 120 minutes and is differentiated between paper and computer media.

Anything above 30 minutes is independently tested and certified.

The Type of Locking

You have two basic options - Key locking or Electronic Digital key Pad The choice is very much a personal one, and because Crothers only stock high quality products with long track records both are equally secure and reliable.

For further details on any of the above or for answers to any questions you may have please contact Martin Crothers, phone 01 4567947 or visit one of our security superstores.

With either option you can choose to have a Time Lock and or a Time Delay Lock.  A time lock will only allow access to the safe during pre- determined opening times. This helps prevents incidents such as “Tiger Kidnapping”.

A Time Delay Lock will only open once the key or code is inserted after a predetermined delay period e.g. 15 minutes. This helps prevents hold ups during business hours
